MBS wants 3 things from Joe Bid

MBS wants 3 things from Joe Bid

  1. Recognition as the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia and a key ally of the US in the Middle East.
  2. Support for his ambitious economic and social reforms, such as Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the kingdom's economy and modernize its society.
  3. Protection from any further sanctions or criticism over human rights violations, such as the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, the war in Yemen, and the crackdown on dissent.

However, Biden has been less friendly to MBS than his predecessor, Donald Trump, who shielded the crown prince from any accountability for Khashoggi's killing and other issues. Biden has released a US intelligence report that implicated MBS in the murder, suspended some arms sales to Saudi Arabia, and called for an end to the war in Yemen. He has also snubbed MBS by not speaking to him directly, but only through his father, King Salman.

Biden's approach reflects his desire to balance US interests and values in the region, as well as to avoid alienating other partners, such as Israel and Iran. He has also faced pressure from Congress and human rights groups to hold MBS accountable and promote democracy and human rights in Saudi Arabia.

However, Biden has also acknowledged that Saudi Arabia is an important strategic partner for the US, especially in countering Iran's influence and ensuring energy security. He has praised MBS for his reforms and expressed support for his efforts to normalize relations with Israel. He has also met with MBS during his recent trip to the Middle East, where they exchanged a friendly fist bump, a gesture that was seen as a sign of reconciliation and respect by some observers.

Therefore, it seems that MBS wants more from Biden than Biden is willing to give him. The relationship between the two leaders is likely to remain complex and tense, but also cooperative and pragmatic, as they both have common interests and challenges in the region.
